Founded in 1992 by Lionel Hines Sr., New Generation Marching Band is a nonprofit youth development organization based in Portsmouth, Virginia, dedicated to transforming lives through music, mentorship, and opportunity. For more than three decades, we have empowered young people by providing a safe, structured environment where they can develop leadership skills, build confidence, and discover their full potential through the performing arts. Serving more than 100 youth and their families, New Generation is more than a marching band—we are a community committed to building confident young leaders.

Our members learn discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance while performing throughout Virginia and across the country. We believe every child deserves access to opportunity regardless of their financial circumstances. Over the years, New Generation has helped students earn hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships and has opened doors to higher education and lifelong success. At New Generation, we don't just build great performers—we build confident young leaders who are prepared to make a lasting impact wherever life takes them.
